We DEMAND Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) give students a voice in teacher evaluations and create a change and improvement to the evaluations of teachers.
According to the 2018 CMS “Breaking the Link” report, CMS was able to retain 83.5% of its teachers who exceeded expected growth. However, high-poverty schools only retain 75.3% of their most effective teachers. On average, teachers with less experience are more likely to teach in moderate-to-high poverty schools than low-poverty schools.

- Student surveys may also show outcome-related results for subjects that do not use standardized tests.
- Standards 2-4 of the current NC teacher evaluation process focus on what is happening inside of the classroom; something that only students can attest to, firsthand.
We are asking for:
- Change teacher evaluations, post-COVID, to include student voice through anonymous surveys.
- Teachers who are deemed effective, under new evaluation criteria, would be eligible for incentives, including pay. Teachers would NOT be able to offer students incentives related to the surveys.
- Mandatory trauma-informed and culturally-responsive training for teachers.
- Student Teacher Conflict-Resolution Program (Peer Groups) in place at every school.
