Tell City Council to Defund
the Minneapolis Police Department

Demand Minneapolis City Council defund Minneapolis Police Department and invest those dollars to create safe and inclusive schools for Black and Brown students.

While we support the School Board's decision to terminate the contract with MPD, we are disheartened that it took the public, violent murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers - and protesters taking to the street - in order for MPS to take action. Students have been demanding this action for years. They have organized large community events, met with multiple stakeholders, provided public testimony, and delivered petitions with hundreds of signatures, demanding that MPS end its policing of schools through our #ProtectedNotSuspected campaign.

Create safe and inclusive schools
for black and brown students

White supremacy manifests in our education systems in countless ways - funding disparities, access to advanced classes, school facilities, lack of teacher diversity, school disciplinary procedures and the school-to-prison pipeline, unsafe school climates for Black students and whitewashed history. We believe that the contract termination with MPD is a powerful and necessary change, but MPS needs to push beyond this single act and continue to build the truly equitable vision of the future that it speaks of for all students of color in the district. The decision makers in our system need to create safe schools that do not include police, but work to foster an inclusive environment.

Demand Minneapolis City Council defund Minneapolis Police Department and invest those dollars to create safe and inclusive schools for Black and Brown students.
